Sponsored by the Credit Union of Atlanta, the 3rd Annual CHOZEN AWARDS (CA) was a huge success as many Atlantans gathered to find out who the “chozen” winners were on March 30, 2011 at Blue Mark Studios.
"My work with ‘From Afros to Shelltoes’ is all about helping others get their dreams out of layaway," said Founder Edward M. Garnes, Jr., and CHOZEN AWARD Motivator of the Year. "To be honored by (my) peers is (a) distinct honor I do not take lightly.”
The CHOZEN AWARDS are known for being the stage for the who’s who of Atlanta. Past recipients and current nominees contribute much more to the community then just their titles; they clearly demonstrate their love for the people of Atlanta through their service and philanthropic endeavors. The night commenced with a riveting performance by J’Da Prynce with covers from John Legend, Rihanna and more, which lead the way for Filmmaker and Professor Erik Gordon and Latina Recording Artist Eva Fe to begin announcing this year's chozen ones. The gold carpet this year saw a fresh face and lots of spunk with the addition of music sensation Goldinella, as veteran CA Host Cauthen Lewis returned for his third year, this time conducting interviews in the Barefoot Wine & Bubbly Lounge on the lower level of the gallery, giving him a chance to relive the excitement experienced from the night's winners.
“As I watched the winners cross the stage last night, I knew that the sleepless nights, calling on sponsors, volunteers and friends to make the 3rd Annual CHOZEN AWARDS a success; was more than worth it," said Liberty, founder of the CHOZEN AWARDS. "We stretched ourselves this year. There were some hits and some misses. But as I stand here today knowing that we made a difference in our communities with OPERATION CHOZEN, inspired college students and budding entrepreneurs at the Women of Distinction Brunch and reminded people that their hard work isn't in vain. I know that we've come a long way."
This year, the CHOZEN AWARDS organization teamed up with 40 Girls and Some Shoes Founder Sylvia Webb who announced that all shoes collected will be donated to the Housing Authority of Fulton County. Recipients of the shoes are families who reside in motels on Fulton Industrial Boulevard, the Housing Choice Voucher (formerly Section 8) and Voucher Holders (low-to-no income families). Throughout the year, 40 Girls and Some Shoes brings awareness to the homeless of Atlanta by asking the public to donate gently worn shoes.
Additional partners of the CHOZEN AWARDS include: JBloom Productions, Futuristic Branding, ROUTE TV, DryerBuzz.com, The Style Suite, The Glambar Salon, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, Poor Little Rich Girl, Taste-T-Cakes, 360 Vodka, Lamik Cosmetics, Headline Boutique and Twisted Soles.
