Local student Marlie Stineman leads the charge in The 4th Annual Tour De Kids Fundraiser to help Savannah’s homeless.
30 Apr 2012
Four years ago Marlie Stineman, a quiet yet caring 3rd grader learned that there were homeless children in Savannah and it made her sad. She was concerned that children her age actually had nowhere to sleep and no place to call home; but she wondered what she could do to help. Marlie, along with Montie Acuff, then Board Chair of Interfaith Hospitality Network, put their heads together and created Tour de Kids, a bicycle tour around the park to raise money for homeless children.
The 4th Annual Tour De Kids will take place on May 5th, 2012 at Lake Mayer. Registration is $10 and includes an event T shirt, lunch and access to carnival style activities in the park. Marlie is now a 6th grade student at Oglethorpe Charter Academy and an active member of the Tour de Kids planning committee. She is sharing her youthful ideas and getting others involved in this worthwhile cause! The main goal of this event is to raise money and awareness about homelessness in our Savannah Community. IHN also hopes to engage children from local schools and congregations with this bike ride around the park. At the end of the tour, the children will enjoy carnival style activities, entertainment, healthy snacks and safe kids’ information. This year we are featuring entertainment by Magic Marc.
About Interfaith Hospitality Network Interfaith Hospitality Network of Coastal Georgia is a local not for profit organization that mobilizes the faith community to end homelessness for homeless families with children. Our goal is to move families from homelessness to independence and self-reliance.
